VTB United Youth League Wraps Up Regular Season

The VTB United Youth League regular season came to a close on Saturday in Samara.

The youth competition, founded in 2013 by the VTB United League, featured 10 teams from Russia in 2015-16. Eight teams advanced to the postseason, which will be contested May 3-5 in Samara's Final Eight.

1st place in the regular season went to Samara-SGEU, which posted a 29-7 recod. The top-3 was rounded out by CSKA-2 (26-10) and Khimki-2 (24-12). The other teams to qualify for the Final Eight are Lokomotiv-Kuban-2 (23-13), Avtodor-2 (19-17), Zenit-2 (18-18), UNICS-2 (18-18) and Nizhny Novgorod-2 (12-24). Rounding out the standings were Krasny Oktyabr-2 (7-29) and Enisey-2 (4-32).

The first round of the Final Eight will feature the following matchups: Samara-SGEU vs. Nizhny Novgorod-2, CSKA-2 vs. UNICS-2, Khimki-2 vs. Zenit-2 and Lokomotiv-Kuban-2 vs. Avtodor-2. The winners of the 1st and 4th pairings, as well as the 2nd and 3rd pairings will meet in the semifinals with the championship game scheduled for May 5. 3d, 5th and 7th place will also be on the line on the final day of competition.
