UNICS Shows Strength vs. Krasny Oktyabr

UNICS Kazan defeated Krasny Oktyabr Volgograd on the road, 114-80. Evgeny Pashutin's men went up 20 points in the 1st quarter and never let Oktyabr threaten, cruising to their 25th win of the season. Kazan also set a club record for points in the VTB United League.

UNICS clinched 2nd place in the league on Sunday in Krasnoyarsk. Volgograd, on the other hand, needed a win to improve its chances of finishing 9th ahead of VEF and Enisey.

Kazan took control almost immediately, scoring with incredible efficiency to pick up a 26-6 advantage after seven minutes. Keith Langford and Anton Ponkrashov led the way, each contributing nine points in the opening period.

Jerry Jefferson helped spark Volgograd's offense, but the defense continued to struggle. The home team trailed by 20 points most of the contest, incapable of mounting a comeback. Despite giving up 80 points, UNICS had no trouble securing the victory.

Kazan ultimately set a new club record for points in the VTB United League with Tatar product Ruslan Khabirov scoring the record-setting basket.

Keith Langford. The UNIC guard played less than usual, but still had time to score 20 points. He was also responsible for Kazan's 1st-quarter spurt, which ultimately decided the outcome.
