Sergey Karasev – January’s Young Player of the Month

Russian Triumph guard Sergey Karasev is the League’s Young Player of the Month in January. The VTB United League together with Championat.com created this award to honor the League’s top young players, 23 years of age or younger (born in 1990 or later). The results of each six monthly awards, in which League and Championat.com experts name a winner and two runners-up, will be taken into consideration when determining the Young Player of the Year honoree.

The 19-year-old Karasev earns the award for the third month (he won earlier in October and November). In two games for Triumph in the New Year (home defeat to VEF and road win over Nymburk), he averaged 16.5 points, 4.0 rebounds and an 11.0 efficiency rating.

Joining Karasev in the top three in January are two more Russians: Krasnye Krylia forward Nikita Balashov and Nizhny Novgorod forward Pavel Korobkov.

- I’m very happy that I’ve been recognized as the top young player in January, - said Sergey Karasev. – It’s an important award for me. I’d also like to thank my coaches, who’ve put their trust in me, and my teammates. The month could have been better for Triumph – we could have beat VEF at home. But, I think we’ve found our game and the most recent contest with Zalgiris is simply evidence of that. I’m also gradually reaching my potential. I want to be ready to help the Russian national team in the summer.
