Kuban Wipes Out Enisey’s Playoff Hopes

Lokomotiv-Kuban Krasnodar defeated Enisey Krasnoyarsk at home, 106-57 (25-10, 20-21, 29-11, 32-15).

Top Scorers
Lokomotiv-Kuban: Jonas Maciulis (22 + 9 reb + 5 ast), Mardy Collins (15), Frank Elegar (14), Trevor Lacey (12 + 5 reb + 5 ast)

Enisey: Suleiman Braimoh (12 + 6 reb)

Krasnodar put together one of the dominant performances of the season, outscoring Enisey by a season-high 49 points.

Lithuanian forward Jonas Maciulis led the way for Lokomotiv with 22 points, nine rebounds and five assists, but this was a team effort from start to finish.

The Railwaymen outshot Enisey 61%-29% from the field, outrebounded the visitors 41-26 and forced 19 turnovers while committing only six.

Aside from the 2nd quarter, when the visitors put up 21 points, Lokomotiv won each period by at least 15 points.

With the victory, Krasnodar moves a half game ahead of St. Petersburg for 3rd place with two games remaining. Enisey drops to 6-17 and has been officially eliminated from the postseason chase.

34-2 – There were a lot of incredible stats in this game, but perhaps none more so than Krasnodar’s +32 on points off turnovers. Evgeny Baburin keyed the defense with four steals.

Dunk of the Game

Lokomotiv-Kuban head coach Sasa Obradovic:
– I want to congratulate my team. We put in good work today. We didn’t underestimate our opponent. We have some nagging issues on the roster: Maciulis only practiced twice this week; Kulagin also picked up an injury. He needs time to recover. All of that has an impact on team chemistry, but I need to give credit to the players who gave 110% this week. This is an excellent result ahead of the playoffs.

Enisey head coach Oleg Okulov:
– If you think we weren’t motivated coming here today, that’s not the case. It’s just that some things didn’t work out quite right. We need to watch the tape carefully to figure out what went wrong and so on. There’s one source of motivation: Go out and play if you don’t want to be last. Yes, we did play worse, but our roster is simply weaker, plus we have different goals.
