Keith Langford Named October MVP

UNICS Kazan guard Keith Langford has been named the VTB United League’s October MVP.

The MVP award is decided by the League and TASS information agency.

Langford and UNICS went 5-0 in October, defeating Nizhny Novgorod, Astana, Enisey, Parma, and Tsmoki-Minsk. The American led the way, averaging 22.8 points, 3.8 assists, and 3.2 rebounds, including a League-record 42 points in the win over Minsk.

Langford beat out Zenit’s Sergey Karasev and Janis Timma for the October MVP.

VTB United League general director Ilona Korstin:
– This season, the MVP race is going to be really exciting. There are a lot of stars in the League and they want to prove that their team can win the championship.

The League will reveal the MVP of the Month winner together with ITAR-TASS, one of the biggest and most respected information agencies.

In the first month of the season, there’s no question Keith Langford was the best player on the court. UNICS won all five games, led by the American guard. In addition, he made history against Tsmoki-Minsk, setting a new League scoring record with 42 points.

I’m confident that the other MVP contenders will make noise during the course of the season: Khimki’s Alexey Shved, who’s back from an injury and Sergey Karasev, who’s started strong at Zenit. CSKA’s leaders should also be in the mix: Nando De Colo and Milos Teodosic. Plus, we’ll definitely get to watch new stars be born on other VTB United League teams.

RBF pro basketball executive Nikita Morgunov:
– UNICS remains in 1st place and hasn’t lost yet in the VTB United League. The team continues to win despite losing two key players to injury: Coty Clarke and Anton Ponkrashov. A lot of the credit goes to Keith Langford’s inspired play. One of the League’s top scorers, he’s never been afraid to decide the outcome of a game. In October, he played like a true leader, contributing in every facet of the game, not just scoring.
