BASKETBOTTLE Campaign Update

BASKETBOTTLE Campaign Update

The VTB United League is ready to recap the first round of the BASKETBOTTLE environmental campaign. Created with the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment as part of Russia’s Year of Ecology, the campaign launched during the 2017 playoffs with the support of SIBUR.

BASKETBOTTLE’s goal is to encourage a responsible approach to plastic. Special containers for plastic recycling were provided at each of the Russian host arenas during the playoffs. As part of the initiative, teams recycled all plastic bottles used during practices and games and encouraged fans to do the same. The collected bottles were then sent to recycling companies for re-use.

Overall, the BASKETBOTTLE campaign helped recycle more than 350 kilograms of plastic in May and June. That’s enough recyclable plastic to make more than 1,000 basketball uniforms!

Hundreds of United League fans also participated in the #БАСКЕТБОТЛ video challenge, getting creative with their recycling efforts. A young Kazan fan, Dana Khabibulina, was named the #БАСКЕТБОТЛ champion and won a brand-new iPhone 7 from the VTB United League!
