Game statistics

CSKA and Co conquer Vilnius

The first part of the Russian-Lithuanian opposition in the New Year - match in Vilnius between Lietuvos Rytas and CSKA Moscow – ended with a confident victory of visitors.

As expected, the match was played in front of a big crowd of the Lithuanian fans in Siemens arena this evening. A national anthem performed by them before the start of the game strengthened the impression of incredible basketball atmosphere even more. It was not surprising that the home team came on the parquet to play against CSKA Moscow with fighting mood and courage. And this was reflected on the scoreboard. After the first six minutes Lietuvos Rytas took the lead - 14:3! Jonas Valanciunas acted very effectively as he felt himself free in a three-second zone.

However, CSKA - is CSKA . The captain of the team Victor Khryapa blocked Valanciunas just in time while Andrey Kirilenko together with Milos Teodosic soon corrected the situation but the hosts still managed to win the first half.

The tribunes became sad and even rousing dances by cheerleaders along with a bright-eyed wolf –the team talisman of Lietuvos Rytas - did not amuse the local fans much. The more so because AK-47, as Kirilenko was named in America, continued to play great.

And after a series of hits by Ramunas Siskauskas CSKA gained «+9» points advantage. On the 23rd minute thanks to Aleksey Shved the scoreboard showed a two-digit advantage for the first time in the match - 47:36. Later, a talented Russian guard scored 5 points in half a minute and it became clear who is the winner.

Lithuanians, of course, were not going to give up. But at the moment CSKA is stronger. As a result, «red –blue» made another confident step to the final first place in the group. This, we remind, automatically leads the team to the «Final four».

CSKA victory - 84:67. Top scorers: 3 CSKA players finished in double digit scouring - Andrey Kirilenko with 13 points, Nenad Krstic and Victor Khryapa with 12 points each; in Lietuvos Rytas the most productive was Tayris Rice (15).
